Derk completed his degree in Dutch Law with a focus on company law at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 2011. During his studies Derk also studied at the Stellenbosch University, South Africa for six months. In addition, Derk completed a master degree in Dutch Tax law at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in 2011.

In April 2011 Derk joined VMW Taxand, after he started at the office as an intern in October 2010. Derk is working as an attorney-at-law and focuses on corporate law.
