Paul joined VMW Taxand in 2011 as an attorney at law.  Paul is coordinator of the Global Indirect Tax Service Line of Taxand. Paul graduated in tax law at the University of Amsterdam in 1998 and specialized in VAT and Customs Duties at Leiden University.  Paul started working at the Indirect Tax Department of Arthur Andersen in Amsterdam in 1998 and in 2002 following a transaction between Deloitte and Andersen Paul joined the Indirect Tax team of Deloitte in Amsterdam. In 2007 Paul has been seconded to the London office of Deloitte LLP focusing on the Financial Services Industry and Tax Management Consulting.  Between 2008 and 2011 Paul has been Deloitte’s Global Indirect Tax Coordinator where Paul was responsible for the coordination of the Global Indirect Tax Service Lines. Paul’s responsibilities included  coordination of Practice Management, Knowledge Management, Global Conferences & Trainings, International proposals and Global Service Offerings. 

Paul has over 10 years of experience in advising nationally and internationally operating companies on Indirect tax and procedural tax related matters, including vehicle registration tax, excise duties and gaming tax.  He practices in several fields of Indirect Tax with a main focus on Financial Services, Consumer Business and VAT compliance technology. Besides advising clients, he represents companies in litigation before the Dutch courts.  Furthermore, Paul has vast experience in the co-ordination of Global and European projects on the VAT treatment of activities in different jurisdictions.  As an attorney at law Paul represents clients before the criminal courts and assists clients with voluntary disclosures (“inkeerregeling”)

Paul is an attorney at law and member of the Amsterdam Bar as well as the Dutch Association of Tax Lawyers (NOB) and teaches tax litigation (Moot Court) at the Leiden University.  Paul is also a regular writer for the VAT technical magazine Btw-bulletin of Kluwer Publishers and writes a monthly contribution for this magazine.
