After completing his degree in Dutch law in 1979, Pieter joined Trip, a law firm in Groningen as an attorney at law. Five years later he joined the Amsterdam law firm, De Roos and Pen as a partner. During his time with De Roos and Pen, he focused on criminal and administrative law. He also advised many officials working for the Amsterdam police force and those in other public service areas on matters covering public service and criminal law. Pieter became a judge of the Criminal Division of the Amsterdam District Court in 1995 during which time he also sat for the Administrative Law Division of that Court. He became a justice in 1999 and coordinating Vice President of the Court of Appeal in Leeuwarden in 2002. He was the Chairman of the Criminal Division and also chaired the Division dealing with tax, financial, economic and environmental law. He returned to the Amsterdam Bar in 2006 when he joined the law firm, Korvinus Abeln. There he continued his work in the specialist areas of criminal and administrative law. He completed his Grotius specialist training in the area of spatial planning and environmental law in 2009. He joined VMW Taxand in 2011 as partner, specializing in tax criminal law and corporate law, which practice areas include financial and economic criminal law, administrative law and administrative penalties. Pieter has extensive experience in the Public Administration (Probity Screening) Act (Wet BIBOB) and other issues that have areas of overlap with criminal and administrative law, such as the Certificate of Good Conduct. Pieter also still works as acting justice for the judiciary in the Appeal Court of Leeuwarden from time to time. He is Acting President of the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal in Groningen.
