Gertjan Hesselberth

Gertjan studied Tax and Corporate Law at the University of Maastricht. He started his professional career in 1996 at Arthur Andersen in Amsterdam (currently part of Deloitte). Within Andersen / Deloitte, Gertjan focused on corporate and international taxation. He has extensive experience in advising on international tax planning, reorganizations, cash repatriations and refinancing projects. His clients consist of Dutch, European and specifically UK and US listed multinationals. Gertjan developed a solid and practical knowledge of both US and UK tax law.

In addition, he has significantly been involved in private equity owned Dutch multinationals, where he advised on the following issues: tax deductibility of acquisition costs, highly leveraged operations and tax (risk) strategies.

Gertjan can be characterized as a committed and true sparring partner for the Tax Directors, Tax Managers, CFO’s and Controllers whom he works with on a daily basis. These strong client relationships have contributed to the many tax rulings, tax controversies and audits he has been involved in over the years. As such, Gertjan has a solid track record of successful negotiations and concluding agreements with the Dutch tax administration.
