Jan Berend Wezeman

Jan Berend joined VMW in 1999 as an advisor to the firm. He read law and completed his degree in Dutch Law at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He worked as a staff member at the universities of Groningen (1984-1991) and Utrecht (1991-2001). From 2001 until 2003 he held the Chair for Company Law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Since 2003 Jan Berend works as a full professor of company law and commercial law at the University of Groningen. At this university he obtained the degree of Doctor in Law in 1998 for an academic thesis on personal liability of directors of companies, under the guidance of his supervisor Prof. dr. Peter van Schilfgaarde.

Jan Berend publishes regularly in law journals and is (co)author of several books on corporate and commercial law. He has been appointed to the editorial board of some Dutch periodicals on company law and commercial law and is also co-director of the Institute for Company Law of the universities of Groningen and Rotterdam. This Institute is one of the leading research centers on company law in the Netherlands.
