Roelof graduated in Tax Law from the University of Groningen in 1989. He started his career as tax advisor in 1989 at Ernst & Young. In 1995 he joined the Indirect Tax department of Arthur Andersen (currently part of Deloitte) in Amsterdam. In 2000 Roelof was promoted to partner of Arthur Andersen. In 2002 he joined Deloitte in Amsterdam as partner. From 2006 up to 2008 Roelof was Service Line Leader of the Indirect Tax group of Deloitte NL and member of the management team of Deloitte Tax NL. From 2005 up to 2008 he was also European Indirect Tax FSI leader. Roelof has been appointed in 2009 as NMI certified mediator at the tax court of Haarlem and the court of Amsterdam. Roelof is also attorney at law and member of the Amsterdam Bar. His indirect tax practice includes both VAT and Customs experience in complex national and international VAT matters. Roelof has a special focus on the Financial Services Industry and tax litigation & mediation. Roelof teaches tax litigation at the University of Leiden and the Dutch Association of Tax Advisors (NOB). He is co-editor of VAT Bulletin (Kluwer) and a member of the board of the Association of Tax Mediators. As of November 2009 Roelof is a member of the board - secretary - of the Dutch organisation of attorneys of law specialised in tax. Recent experience includes: advisory work with regard to the new VAT rules as of 2010 within the EU, litigation with regard to the personal liability of a director for company VAT debts, VAT advisory work with regard to global webhosting activities, VAT restructuring work with regard to suppliers in the gaming industry, indirect tax compliance and voluntary tax disclosure arrangements.
